After receiving his Bachelors degree in Engineering from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1980, Jim moved to Colorado. He worked as an engineer for 3 years and then was moved into Management at Hewlett Packard. Jim was first Rolfed in
1981. Suffering from headaches caused by hours at the computer, he had
resorted to taking aspirin for the pain. This led to stomach
Jim left Hewlett Packard in 1992 to enter Veterinary School. After consulting with Sakong Mipham Rinpoche a renowned Tibetan Lama he decided this wasn’t the best course of action for him. He re-entered the hi-tech world and moved to Boulder County in Northern Colorado. At an Endurance Horse Ride in 1993 he had a bad accident, ending up in the Neurological Ward, with head injuries, a broken collar bone and two broken ribs. The help of Chiropractic and Rolfing soon had him riding horses again. At the same time his horse had been injured and through the help of a Rolfer he got better. It was during his horse’s first Rolfing session that Jim decided to become a Rolfer.
Determined to turn his love of horses into a career he decided to pursue Horse Rolfing. Since there is no such training available Jim entered the Rolf Institute of Structural Integration, the school started by Dr. Rolf, and got his certification to work with humans. During his training he concluded that the methodology used to work with humans was not directly applicable to horses. Using his knowledge of equine anatomy, engineering and his new Rolfing training he developed a method specifically for the horse's quadruped structure.
After three years in private practice he went back to the Rolf Institute and got his Advanced Certification.
Jim lives in Boulder County with his wife, their son, their horses and other animals. His human practices are located in Colorado and Bermuda www.healthcoop.bm . He travels the world working with horses and teaches people to work with horses at his Equine Therapy Barn in Colorado www.equinesi.com. If you like to make an appointment for yourself or your horse please contact Jim.
